Janice Arnold-Jones has a long career as a policy maker and advocate for our community.
She is known for her ability to organize and to help others “connect the dots”. Janice has always been an advocate for transparency and good government.
Janice Arnold-Jones has a diverse business background in management, finances, communications, and operations. As a four-term legislator, Representative Arnold-Jones served on the Tax and Revenue Committee, Voters and Elections Committee and several interim committees including the Information Technology Oversight Committee. Representative Arnold-Jones passionately advocated for improved technology in New Mexico to make communication more reliable and our state government more effective.
Janice worked as a contractor to Sandia National Laboratories for twelve years. She owned two businesses, one lasting over 20 years and employing 13 people. As she moved across the country following her husband John’s 23-year career in the Navy, Janice worked in the electrical contracting industry, banking, radio, television, newspaper, and jingle production.
Early in her career, Janice worked as an intern to the New Mexico Senate Republicans, then went on to help write and pass the New Mexico Criminal Sexual Conduct Code, signed into law by Governor Bruce King on March 20, 1975. This effort led to assisting in the establishment of additional Rape Crisis centers including Hawaii’s Kapiolani Women’s Hospital and Tripler Army Medical Center, the first military hospital to treat female and male victims of sexual assault.
Volunteering is part of life for Janice, whether working with Rape Crisis centers, the PTA, Scouting Neighborhood Associations, coaching youth soccer and training youth soccer coaches, or creating the ENLACE Legislative Internship Program, Janice and John believe “every place is what you make it”, so pitch in and make where you live better than you found it.
Janice is a proud graduate of Albuquerque High School (old school) and the University of New Mexico.
In July of 1975, Janice married the newly minted Navy Ensign John L. Jones, the love of her life for 45 years. John and Janice have two children, Robert, and Mary, and were recently blessed with a beautiful granddaughter.
